Melissa Beowulf has been Artist-in-Residence at Beowulf Galleries for the past two years and has now commenced a Master of Art - Painting at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, in Paddington.
Melissa is primarily a portrait artist, though she also works in other media such as sculpture, pastel and silkscreening. She was a finalist in the 2000 Archibald Prize, with a portrait of Ken Done, and was a finalist in the 1998, 2000, 2001 Portia Geach Portrait Prize and, in 2003, was Highly Commended. In 2001, Melissa's portrait of Dr Brian Kennedy was selected for the Salon des Refuses and her portrait of "The White Mouse", Nancy Wake, was selected as a finalist in the 2002 Doug Moran Portrait Prize.
In 2004, Melissa's portrait of Nancy Wake was purchased by the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, as part of their permanent collection.
Melissa has been painting commissioned portraits for local and overseas clients for several years and is available for commissioned work as well as producing works for a forthcoming exhibition. |
